The Virgin STRIVE Challenge Triathlon is complete! The stage was arguably the toughest. For Core Team members, it began with a swim from Italy to Sicily, across the Straits of Messina, an infamous and treacherous stretch of water, complete with strong tides, jelly fish and coastal tides. For our triathletes STRIVERs they took on an equivalent 3.3km swim along the coast of Sicily (equally as tough!) Most spent over 1.5 hours in the water, and showed unbelievable strength and resilience to make it through to the end!
Next our triathletes mountain biked a huge 120km with 1,600m of elevation, to the foothills of Mount Etna. These off road adventures seriously took our triathletes out of their comfort zone. For many, it was their first time on a mountain bike: most of the group came into the challenge thinking they wouldn’t be able to get through two days of biking up hill. But, it became yet another example of what the STRIVE team are capable of when they have a growth mindset and push through challenges together. Whilst there was a lot of nerves and anticipation at the start, by the end of the two days it had quickly become a new STRIVE favourite challenge!
On the final morning the STRIVERs took on a 14km vertical trail run, to the mid-point of Mount Etna….
Before having an emotional journey all the way to the summit of Mount Etna…
