After the gruelling, yet hugely successful, first challenge in 2014, the Virgin STRIVE Challenge is back!
Today Strivers will be starting from where they left off in 2014- the base of the Matterhorn in Switzerland. The Core Team will hike 70 km into Northern Italy, cycle to the Southern tip of Italy, swim to Sicily, mountain bike and trail run to the foothills of Mount Etna, before attempting to climb the active volcano. They will be joined by over 250 STRIVERs over the five stages to continue the epic adventure, raising £.1.5 million for Big Change.
STRIVE was the brainchild of Sam Branson and his cousin Noah Devereux. For Sam, this year’s challenge is all about continuing the journey:
“STRIVE is a ‘moment in time’ that brings together a community of change makers, who are passionate about breaking the negative cycle so prevalent around young people today. We held our first Virgin Strive Challenge in 2014 – raising over £750,000 for ground breaking youth projects in Britain. VSC 2016 will continue that journey.’’
In 2014, an inspirational group of STRIVERs tackled three marathons, a cross-channel row, a 1000 km cycle, and a 7 day hike before scaling the Matterhorn to make it from London to the Matterhorn fully under human power. This year will once again bring an extraordinary group of people together who all believe that change is possible. From the Branson family to ex-gang leader, poet and activist Karl Lokko and Innocent Drinks co-founder Richard Reed, all have strived in some way – in business, sport or life – and all believe in the Big Change philosophy: “growth happens when you step out of your comfort zone to achieve bold ambitions. Magic happens when you do it with others.”

STRIVE this year is double the distance, trying to raise double the money for Big Change- a social impact accelerator who are investing in the next generation to create a brighter future. Big Change back projects that equip young people with the skills, experiences and support to develop a growth mindset and thrive in life, not just in exams.
All of our Strivers are setting a great example for young people by taking on this adventure, because we believe challenging yourself and pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone will help you grow as a person. Developing this Growth Mindset is at the heart of everything we do at STRIVE and Big Change, and it is also the change we want to inspire in the young people we are supporting.
Thank You to all our amazing Sponsors: Virgin, Virgin Pulse, Virgin Money, Jigsaw Medical, Gemporia and Technogym and all of our Partners- we couldn’t have taken on this amazing challenge without your support!
