Last week, our team travelled to Newcastle to visit one of our sponsors for the Virgin Strive Challenge 2016. We headed to Virgin Money HQ to talk about the philosophy behind Strive, where we were welcomed into their incredible offices and had the chance to speak to over 200 enthusiastic staff.
Essie, Karl and Noah took the stage to speak to the group about the Strive Challenge, and about why we strive in the broader sense of the term. They discussed the driving concept of growth mindset, and the importance of helping to instill it in young people to prepare them for life’s challenges. Afterwards, Sam joined them on the stage for a Q & A session with Paul Eastwood, the Change and Integration Director at Virgin Money. It was a lively conversation, and there was no shortage of challenging and through-provoking questions from the group.
In the afternoon, we got a tour around the (incredible) offices and met with groups of students who had taken on the “Make £5 Grow” enterprise education program that Virgin Money runs for 9-11 year olds. One group managed to make £1,000 out of a fiver, and what is even more impressive is that they promptly decided to donate these profits to charity!
We were deeply impressed by the culture at Virgin Money, and how they are shaking up the traditional world of finance. At the heart of everything they do is an ambition to ‘make everyone better off’ – a unique mentality that shines through in everything that they do.
It was also great to catch up with some friendly faces and past Strivers who joined us from Virgin Money in 2014 and 2015. We’re looking forward to having more VM Strivers this year! After our visit, we think they are definitely up to the challenge.
Thanks for having us and thanks for your ongoing support, Virgin Money! We know we’ll be seeing lots more of you soon.
